A History: The Standschütze Hellriegel M1915

While predominantly the most used weapon on the assault class in battlefield, the weapon itself Is shrouded in more mystery than cicada 3301 puzzles.

Anyway, jokes aside...

The "Standschütze Hellriegel M1915" is a concept/prototype combination of a water-cooled Heavy Submachine Gun. While the Hellriegel is a mystery, we can make some assumptions based on the name.

Firstly is the "Standschütze", the closest thing i could find relatable to the word is the Austro-Hungarian reserve-forces that were tasked with defending the Austrian states of Tyrol and Vorarlberg. This could suggest that the original creator was apart of the reserves.

Then we have the "Hellriegel" bit, this is the only reference we have (that's even remotely close to) the original creator. Pretty heavy (as i listen to the DOOM OST) for a name.

And finally, the M1915 could reference the year the prototype was manufactured, (Manufactured in 1915". There are few images of it, which have the numbers showing 10.1915, possibly meaning the month and year it was made, "October, 1915".

Popular to what DICE* wants you to think, the Hellriegel only had two types of magazines that fired 9x23mm Steyr cartridges** for the Hellriegel, the first was a 20 round stick, and the other was a 160-round Drum Magazine that WAS belt fed (it used a flexible tube to feed the cartridges), however the magazine itself was not attached to the gun, and thus could only be fired from a static firing positions (I.e. prone, resting on a wall) and could vary in fire rates, between 550 to 650 rounds per minute.

Due to the limitation of the Water-cooling feature, the weapon itself could not support a bipod, this may have been intended so that the weapon would only be used for offensives. (Which is curious as the only association it has is the reserve forces)

As it was only in it's prototype stage, there may not have been many developed, which may also be why we have no more evidence or information on the gun itself.



*Giving us a middle-gap for magazine size, I'd honestly rather have a 20 round magazine with higher damage. And a bipod on the defensive variant of a gun that physically can't have a bipod? What smartass is making these ideas up?

**These were pistol cartridges, this probably brought on the submachine gun term. You'll have to cut this brit some slack for weaponry knowledge.
